Applworks bleeds

Is it my Lexmark z23 printer, or AppleWorks 6.2.4 that causes all text on the same lines as a gif assume the same (yet smeared) color of the gif?

Plus, is it pretty much true that AW is not conducive to background watermarks?

Print the same thing to another printer if you can. If the problem is gone then it is your printer. If it is still persistent, it may be your printer driver.
