Archos already has the video "ipod"

Thanks for bringing that up jaybeekay

And since it's Mac OS compatible, depending of course on the quality of both device, if Apple releases a video-enabled device(which seems pretty feasible), those two products would most likely compete.

Not that I can doubt the quality of an Apple product btw ;)

This new archos product looks like the rumored video-ipod, it has MP4 support too, the only thing I can see that is different would be it's support for listening to MP3s and for Divx 4 & 5 encoded movies

I wonder if Apple would include Divx support, we'll see tomorrow!

"USB 1.1 Hard Disk"? For transferring video? Yikes! 1.25MB per second here we come! :p

All Apple has to do is release a similar device with Firewire 2 at 80 times the speed of USB 1.1 and they've got it beat with that alone. If you wanted to transfer a full-length DivX movie to your device, would you rather wait 9 hours (USB 1.1) or 7 minutes (Firewire 2)?

Even plain old Firewire would beat a USB device like this to pieces.

Still, though, the Archos thing is pretty cool. Especially the voice-recorder part. I wish iPods had that.

It is also important to note that there were MP3 players on the market before iPod. Even some with hard drives.

It's not ONE feature or spec that makes the iPod (or a Mac for that matter) a better product...it is ALL of them.

For example there were higher capacity HD MP3 players than the iPod when it first came out. There were SMALLER MP3 players. There were CHEAPER MP3 players. But there were NONE that combined ALL of what iPod is into one package.

That is what Apple does with all their products!
