Are new iBooks coming?

Howdy
Are new iBooks coming? It always happens. No matter what i buy. Not long after i buy a computer (or computer part) either it drops in price or a new design comes out. So heres my question again smarties... Are new iBooks coming? One of my christmas gifts was help in buying an iBook. Ohh and wheres the best place to buy one? I'm a student so i would like a student discount. But all apple gives is a $50 discount. So maybe i thought i could find it cheaper elsewhere.

Thanks for any help

as to whether or not there will be new ibooks, look here for some of the debte we have previously held on this issue. be sure to follow the link in that thread for the full blown adventure in psychic disability.:D

you won't be able to get it cheaper than at apple, but if you look around the web stores, you're likely to find it at a better deal by getting freebies like extra ram and other stuff. find one out of your state and you save tax. macmall, maczone, macconnection, macwarehouse are all possibilities. try looking under your browser's bookmarks. several of these should be there somewhere.:)

ps. obviously i would suggest you wait a couple of weeks and see what happens.

Thanks for the answer. I've been looking around and i will wait untill after the Mac Expo coming up in early Jan.

Just a note - Apple is having a promotion until the end of December on the iBooks. Buy one, and you will get $100 off immediately. Like I said in the previous thread, the iBooks and Powerbooks have just been updated about 2 months ago, so I kind of doubt there will be any update to either of them (the Powerbook actually got a combo drive a few weeks ago, so now I REALLY doubt about an update at MWSF).

Personally, if I were to buy an iBook, I'd be buying now to take advantage of the promotion that Apple is offering. But if you want to take a chance, and go the way of Ed buying me a pastry and a beverage, be my guest. :D

just me - but my experience tells me deals just get better with time, they don't go backwards. this is just marketing. eg - i bought my imac on one of these deals. one month later the price was $200 cheaper. my girlfriend bought her imac this summer and it was top of the line at the time. We went on vacation for three weeks and by the time we came back and set it up, it was mid line and $200 cheaper. plus the extra ram doubled.

but you have to decide this for yourself.
you just never know for sure. "buy it now" will always be part of marketing any product.

Never, ever, ever, never buy any Apple product within a month of an upcoming Expo. At the very least, wait for the expo to hit and decide from there. Prices sure aren't going to go up, and you might just have a new product to choose from or a price drop. Worst case scenario, nothing changes, then buy.

.... I would follow that exact advice mindbend, but in this case, twister seems to know for sure that he wants an iBook. And in my opinion (I'm sure Ed Spruiell would disagree ;) ), because the iBooks were updated scarcely two months ago, and they do not lack a combo drive (like the PBG4 did), that there will be no update and no price drop to the iBook at MWSF. Call it a hunch, but that's what I'm thinking.

And because of this, twister should take advantage of the $100 savings promotion now, because the price will "go up" $100 after December 31.

twister: I'd advise you to do what you think is right. If you feel that you want to take a chance and buy the iBook right now, go ahead. If you want to take a chance and wait, go ahead. All I'm doing is making sure you know that you can get a good discount right now on the new iBooks.

You all make very good points. And since macworld is in early jan i think i'll chance it.

Thanks for all the advice though. Its a hard decision. And no matter what happens something new always comes out right after you buy. Well it seems like that anyways.
