Asante Etherfast590 will not work
I have installed an AsanteFast 590 Ethernet card I had laying around into my DualG4 and cannot get OSX (v10.1.2) to recognize the new port- I am trying to run my ADSL into the built in ethernet port (en0) and connect my other two computers (Dual G4 running OSX (v10.1.2), Umax J700 running 9.1) into the Asante card which should be recognized as (en1)-
Let me digress...
I have been using a Linksys self configuring hub to connect the three computers and a laser printer over Appletalk- I cannot for the life of me seem to be able to get the multiple port functions to allow me to have my ADSL connection and Appletalk running at the same time. for example- if I am connected to another computer and turn on my ADSL then my network connection to the other computer disconnects---If my ADSL is on and I try to connect to another computer on my network nothing happens and 'connect to server' gives me MY computer name in the Appletalk servers list...SO, I figured, that since drivers are available now for the Asante card I could use that to connect to my network hub and the built in port to connect to the ADSL... As you can guess, it is not working since I cannot get OSX to recognize the card--- I have checked the System Profiler and it acknowledges that there is a card in the pci slot B but that it is not available... Network utility only sees the built in port... I have restarted the machine several times and installed the software twice in vain to get the card to work- I have tested the card in my Umax and it works fine... If anyone has any ideas how to remedy this please let me know...
