heres the deal
entirely randomly, my speaker port decided to stop working. well, working
is a relative term. If I want to hook external speakers in, they work
fine. This includes headphones and other peripherals. However, when there
is no input, my built-in audio produces no sound. A red light shines out
of the speaker port.
Furthermore, the display on my computer changes. Ordinarily, if you were
to hit the f3, f4, or f5 hotkey, the display would change accordingly. f3
works fine, I can mute or un-mute to my hearts content. When I hit f4 or
f5 however, I get no display whatsoever(or, sometimes the top of the
display, with no bars under it indicating the volume level). this is not
the case when I have an audio input in the jack...when that happens, the
display is normal.
Any clue as to what this would be, and if it's a hardware repair I
need...an idea of how much that might run me?
