Does any one know of a way to get a user account to auto log out after a set amount of time of inactivity?

Security tab of Systems Preferences (in Apps folder) does what you need.
Note: If an app has a file open that it needs saving - it'll wait for confirmation and therefore cancel logout to protect your data.
