autorun something when a drive is connected?

hi

is there a way that i can automatically perform some action whenever i connect my external usb harddrive?

i have a little script on that drive (i could put it somewhere else if needed), that uses "rsync" to back up a few directories.
because i'm lazy i would like this script to run automatically whenever i plug in the drive.

is this possible?
