BACKING UP DVD MOVIES using Toast

I'm trying to back up a few DVD MOVIES in toast but I can't fit it on a DVD-R, they're 7gig and the blank DVDR's are only 4.5gig. Is this right?

I'm new to DVD burning by the way.

Thanks

As long as you're making LEGAL backups.....here's what I do. I rip the DVD using DVDBackup, and then compress it with DVD2ONEX.

I'm pissed i didn't back up my Friday, now it won't play the last 2 chapters. Apple DVD player sits there then it gives me an error. The disc is still in good condition, so i dunno whats wrong with it, maybe the heat messed up that area or something.

Try VLC instead of Apple DVD Player.

DVDBackup has some problems with kernel panics on dual processor systems. If you're going to use it rip the 1gb .vob's one at a time and it won't crash.

Just a friendly reminder to observe MacOSX.com's board rules concerning discussion of copyrighted materials (which everyone has done thus far, as far as I'm concerned).

Look for the "Rules" button at the top of the page.

Thanks!
