Backing up my IBOOK

So it looks like I'm going to have to reinstall Mac OSX on my IBook but before I do I would like to back up the majority of the files and applications I have installed over the years.. Is it possible to do this if the .dmg and .iso files, etc. are long gone? If it is what's the best solution?

Thanks.

Well you can reinstall the system, without wiping any of your files using Archive & Install but its worth backign up anyway to be honest.

To back up you can use Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper both of which will make bootable images of your whole hard disk.

If you run 10.5 you can also use TimeMachine to make a backup, which has the advantage of being able to import all your applications directly onto a fresh install.
