Bank of America abandons Mac Quicken support

Intuit's personal financial management application Quicken has lots of fans. The software is supported on both Mac OS and Windows, and can be used with certain banks to help manage online banking transactions. It appears that Bank of America is prepared to abandon support for their Macintosh users.

A recent letter sent to Bank of America customers indicates that as of February 11, 2002, the company will no longer support Macintosh versions of Quicken. Users who are now depending on Quicken for Mac will automatically be switched to the company's "Online Banking with Bill Pay" service, instead.

Bank of America cites "changes in [their] Online Banking platform" as the reason for the switch.

Bank of America encourages customers with questions about the change in support to call them at 800.933.6262, option 3. (Thanks to MacCentral reader Daniel Howell for info used in this article.)

I abandoned Bof A long ago for lesser crimes. If only all their mac users would switch banks and show them just what they meant to the bank that has always seen itself as so powerful that customers don't matter.

Ed - Unfortunately, it's not so easy to switch all my accounts away from BoA; I've not only got my regular accounts, but my mortgage is with them.

SimX - Where do you find that information? If it's true, could it be that they're phasing out the use of Quicken interfacing their systems altogether, instead favouring a web-based interface?

A quick look @ their website suggests that the major difference is that everything will be done with the web interface. Apparently, QIF's can still be downloaded; it's an extra step, sure, but I'm apparently missing something here. What can one do with Quicken that can't be done via the web interface (convienience aside). I just got a copy of Q2002 for X that I was going to use for this, but now... ???
