ok - as a pretty new mac-user(owned my iBook now for 16 months..) i would like some of you who knows a bit more to tell why i should buy the G5 powermac 1,6 instead of the 17" iMac.. or vice versa.

the price is the same(considering you've got a monitor, wich i have), so why should I "go pro"...?

my use ist normal(i guess) - lots of surfin' the web, word, a bit of multitasking but not the heavy programs too much, but i may want to use the machine as a recording-studio after a bit(music), adding facilities to record multiple sources at once...

is it really "a big difference" between the two processors?

and it may be usefull for me to use the machine as a tv, by adding one of theese cards wich makes this possible(at least this feature sounds nice, know nothing about it though so please share your thoughts and experiences...)

the downside with the powermac, i feel, is its design. by buying the iMac i feel like buying furniture somewhat - it just looks sooo nice!

What your getting with the PowerMac over the iMac is really upgradability. The G5 processor is much more powerful then the G4 in the iMac also.
If you want to be able to have TV in, you would have to buy a usb or firewire add on for the iMac, whereas you could get a card with the ability on the PowerMac.
Also the PowerMac will last a lot longer then the iMac, not physically, but it will be able to perform acceptably with new programs and hardware for much longer then the iMac. I would go for the PowerMac over the iMac is I were you.
