Best DVD/CD rewriters???

My uncle wants to buy an external Dvd/CD rewriter.
I was wondering if there was any particular brand that excels above the others.

for DVD-R/RW, pioneer probably makes the best drives. for CD-RW, plextor probably makes the best drives.
