Hi,
Here is my grand plan. Maybe you will like it, too.
(1) Acquire IBM TravelStar 60GB notebook harddrive (e.g.
here)
(2) Acquire "Cutie" or "911" FireWire Drive enclosure for notebook drives (ATA) (see
here)
(3) Attach item in 1 to item in 2, and plug into my firewire port on my G4 Powerbook
(4) Do one of the following things, which I am not sure which works, since I have not tried them, comments please:
**a. Do a backup of my internal drive and a restore onto the firewire drive (hfspax, or commercial utility)
**b. Reboot G4 with OS9 and then OSX install CD, boot from CD, install to external firewire drive
**c. Use the commandline tool dd to dump the internal disk to the external disk
(5) Whatever. Insure that I can *boot from the external disk*.
(6) Turn off powerbook. Swap the external drive for the internal drive, putting the old internal in the firewire case, and the external in the internal powerbook.
(7) Boot up with lots of extra space!
I have *not verified that this plan works*, but it sounds pretty close.
