Big OS X prob with my iBook!

Mr. Fancy Pants
Hello,

My iBook won't shut down normally. I get a never ending be-ach ball or, if I do a fsck -y at start up, at shutdown I get a message that says "failed to write to daemon, retval = 32"

Also, When I run systemworks 2.0, disk doctor freezes at the file : "com.phasic.PatchNub.00012800" I checked the folder that is supposed to be in which is: Mac HD/private/tmp/501/Cleanup At Startup. OK it's there but something else is supposed to be there. on my iMac I checked the same foder and I have a file which is named something similar to: d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e
The number I just typed is what I get when I type: openssl md5
in the terminal.
So This is what I tried; I deleted the com.phasic... file and rebooted. that didn't help. It just made a new file but the other one (d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e) was still not in there. I sent the "d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e" type file over to my iBook from my iMac and renamed it "d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e" and put it in that folder (Mac HD/private/tmp/501/Cleanup At Startup) that didn't work. Actually when I rebooted it got rid of the file I put in there!

One more thing. If I just reboot (after doing a fsck -y to fix everything. which always gets rid of 1 or 2 indirect nodes temp670983 etc...) and use only sherlock or system prefs it will shut down normal. But if I use, entourage, IE 5, photoshop, or anything OTHER than system software, this crap happens. Any ideas or solutions? Please help me!!!
