BootCD 0.6 is out!

Hmmn, this looked really good so i decided to have a go. made a bootable image and put all the programs on it. Unfortunately, it failed verification when i burnt it in disc utility. I suppose i should have used Toast like I normally do, but the instructions mentioned disc utility...
Oh, and i've never failed verification with this media before, which is a relatively pricy TDK d-view 700mb cd-r.
A shame, I may try again, but it took ages and i don't have time right now.

Anyone else tried this? Fryke?

I tried burning the image in Toast and it worked fine. I booted up from the disc, albeit very very slowly, and it seemed to work OK, the programs ran etc though i didn't try anything that would have touched my primary drive, just i case.

So a success i guess, even if it takes it something like 10 minutes to boot up, hopefuly i'll never have the need to use my shiny new emergency boot disc.

I've made one in 10.3.4. Works fine, although - as mentioned - very, very slowly. But it's for emergencies, isn't it. Now I can boot my PB from CD into 10.3.4 and use my favourite reparation/test tools in a graphical environment. Nice.

I'm not sure what makes booting from the CD so slow. Probably the machine's constantly trying to _write_ on the boot device. But I'd say it's still not only an interesting project, it's also really, really helpful.

It shouldn't be trying to write to the boot device. CD drives are just way way slower than HDs. Just try copying an audio file off a CD, then copy it between HDs, or even HD partitions, for comparison.

Sure the tool will become a bit faster and more stable once they complete the final build. Whenever and whatever it may be.
