Hey everyone,
This isnt really a Mac OS Harware problem but it does have to do with boot linux from an external drive. My question is can linux, probably mandrake, but if that wont work im open to suggestions, be loaded onto an external drive and is it worth it in terms of compromising speed. This will be my first atempt at installing anything to external drive so i cant say i know too much about them.
thanks

Well, as long as the mac itself (not mac os) can identify the drive, it should work. I've been wanting to try this with my iPod for awhile, but have not been able to find someone to burn me the disk. Normal firewire hard drives should do the trick, and should be fast enough so the difference between that and an internal hard drive isn't very noticeable.

However, I have not done anything of the sort, so take what I have to say with a grain of salt. It should work anyway, and I don't see any reason why it wouldn't.
