Brand new mac osx 10 user/admin privilages

We are the proud owners of a MacBookPro with both osx10 and winxp installed. I m having trouble with admin privilages/password when updating software. I cannot update without a password,and I ve never set up an admin account on this computer,tho it seems as tho one is already there. Admin account shows up and asks for a password,but of course, I have no idea what it is,or if there is even one set.

I ve never used anything `cept winders and am pleasantly suprised at the uniqueness and functionality of osx10.:D

The account that you established when you setup the computer out-of-the-box is administrative by default. Did you do anything to change its privileges?
