Built-In Ethernet G4 can't wake up.

I'm dealing with a g4 that boots up and the ethernet port is asleep. I've tried the following:

1. Set the buil-tin ethernet to first priority in Network Port Configuration.
2. Energy Saver Settings: Wake for Admin Access is checked. Sleep settings are Never.

Another symptom I'm experiencing is not being able to make File Sharing Option set. I can select it and exit but upon going back into the utility, it's set to blank again.

The g4 is connected to a Linksys wireless router with a cable modem attached.
I have another g4 with identical settings that does not have this problem.

The original symptoms were:

1. No network connectivity when G4 first boots up. Have to try to ping from another Mac to "wake up" the NIC.

2. Does not pickup DHCP assigned address from the Linksys switch/router it is attached to.

SOLUTION:
The Mac was connected to the switch with a 150foot long Cat5. I moved the Mac physically next to the switch and replaced with a short 4 foot patch cable. Would you know it, everything came up perfect. I replaced the entire cable because reterminating the ends did not solve the problem. Must have been a break somewhere midways.
