Under Bush's proposal, which effectively amounts to an amnesty program for illegal immigrants with jobs in the United States, an undocumented worker could apply for temporary worker status here for an unspecified number of years, with all the employee benefits, like minimum wage and due process, accorded to those legally employed.

[..]Administration officials said Bush would also propose increasing the number of green cards issued each year, which is now about 140,000, but they did not provide a specific number.

[...]Bush entered office with immigration reform at the top of his foreign policy agenda, and in the late summer of 2001 various guest worker proposals were under intense discussion by United States and Mexican officials. [..]Currently, 140,000 are issued annually for workers who are sponsored by employers, with only 10,000 of those set aside for unskilled workers. Administration officials acknowledge that the wait for a green card can take up to six years or longer [..]"They're asking people to sign up for a program that is more likely to ensure their departure than ensure their permanent residency," said Cecilia Muñoz, vice president of National Council of La Raza, a Hispanic advocacy organization..

In theory nice, more chances for the imigrants. In practise? Sign for the program and be kicked out.

Reading only the page 1 that sounds nice, but to me it appeals that Bush is just trying to get a lot of votes from the Hispanics.
::evil::

No, say it ain't so. Bush letting illegals in and making them legal just to get votes. Would he really do that?
Yea, why not, give all our money away to foreigners.

Yes, he would really do that. If the WASPs don't want to vote for him, get the others to vote.

...or while he was driving around drunk... or while he was sniffing cocaine.... or... lol. Sorry, what was this thread about?

The worst thing is that this might just be a promise (If you vote me and I'll be prez, then I will ...), which he might not be even able/willing to keep. I remember an european prime minister who once was elected by promising a million new jobs to the people ...

The sad thing is that politicians not only try, but actually pass themselves off as being able to solve EVERYBODY's problems. This is how we get all those broken promises. And when a politician doesn't make outrageous promises, then he's seen as being cynical. Damn dumb people.

Bush is running this country into the ground; maybe he's set to give it over to foreigners. :p

I suggest everyone who's a voting citizen of the US join the Move On PAC. They currently have a campaign going to sway voters in key swing states against Bush with user-submitted TV commercials, of which they received over a thousand. The voting for the best of them is over, but the top 15 will be judged on the 12th in NY. It may be too late to vote for this, but it's not too late to sign up for the next thing they do.
