I was looking at digital cam corders earlier today and found a really nice/professional one for roughly $300!

I would use it mainly for skateboarding films and every once in a while just for kicks. But other than that I don't know if I'll use it or not. And what happens if I decided to stop skateboarding/filming?

Do you think it's worth the money to spend on a camera you *might not use? What other projects could I use a cam corder for?
 
You always need cam corders. Get final cut pro, download the lightsaber filter, and you can make a starwars film!
Or you can videotape your lovely holiday in paris, or your brother's wedding.
 
Is that US$300? If so I'd buy it. I've been looking for a camcorder for a while and the best I can find is a Sony mini DV (not all that professional) for AUS$1500 that's about US$700.

Depending on how trustworthy your brother is you could lend it to him when he comes to Aus.

And yes, buy it. If you find that you don't use it much there's always eBay, or in any case, $300 isn't that much for what you can do with it.
 
yeah, send me the URL...I'm looking for a nice DV cam as well. Make SURE to check out epinions.com or something....cameras are NOTORIOUS for being utter pieces of crap, even from the big companies (sony, panasonic, canon, etc)...make sure it's a good camera.

The reviews and epinions and other websites are all pretty much good. Basically it sounds pretty nice for whatever I'd use it for. Looks like I *am going to buy the camera. :)

Last time I had you guys help me decide on my HP Photosmart camera, and you guys helped me choose correctly. I have no regrets. Hopefully the same goes for the video cam. ;)

Why can't you post this URL? Is it stolen, or is it on eBay and you don't want anybody to compete with you?

Make sure you don't get a camera that ejects tapes out the bottom. That is very annoying, especially with a tripod.
 
I can't post it because I don't know how many they have in stock right now. And I really want one, but I won't have all the money until sometime next month.

And I won't be using a tripod. ;)
 
it wasn't but it might as well be, his was also refurbished ;)

And trip, it's a great cam, but it is by no mean professional.
 
Well, professional in a sense that it is extremely better than what I was planning to get (a Canon ZR25?) and it's really quite up there.

But anyway, I'm really excited. I want to get it now!!! Anybody need some graphic work done? I'm not expensive!!! :D
 
I'm an amateur, but I'm not a newbie. :p I'm sure a number of people are, as well.
 
Yeah, that's an awesome idea! We had that icon contest for the chat client, we should have more stuff like that.
