Bypassing proxy settings & firewalls

Hi,

I am at University, and they seem to have blocked several ports not allowing me to use programs such as Limewire and Acquisition.

Is there anyway to get this to come through an open port such as 80 or 21?

Thanks :)

I am going to ignore the programs you are wishing to use, which we do not endorse here at macosx.com, and to answer your question generally.

It is NOT possible to bypass blocked ports on a firewall.

For example... your desination address (the system you are trying to access) is at 208.4.55.23 PORT 2305. The only way you can get to the person on a port other than 2305 is to use some sort of PROXY assuming the application supports it. This is ONLY if that proxy is either beyond the firewall, or is behind it and allowed through on those other ports.

Incoming taffic, if you have a public IP address, yes, you could almost any application on any port that you wanted - you'd be the host. Assuming they allow that. :)

This philiosphy applies to every net enabled application, not just the ones you mentioned.
