I switched to cable hi-speed about six weeks ago and was pleased with the results until a couple of weeks ago. Suddenly, and for no reason that either I or my ISP (Rogers) can determine, my connection stops working until I either restart the computer or reboot my cable modem. What happens with the WWW is when this connection begins to become problematic is the 'contacting' webpage message (i.e., unable to contact the desired URL). With email, I get the message that mail cannot be received at this time.
I do not use any router. My mac is connected directly to the cable modem.
I have a G4 Cube 450, using OS X.3.9, Safari 1.3.2, Entourage 10.1.6
I TCP/IP settings are all 'automatic'. I have also tried to reduce the MTU from 1500 to 1492 without any effect. When the connection works, everything goes well, but this thing goes AWOL at least 10 times a day. Very frustrating.
Any help on this would me much appreciated.
