Man am I stuck. I just brought home my very fist mac this week to hook up to my new Sony camcorder (DCR-PC9). I hook the firewire from the camera to the mac, and as soon as the camera powers up, the mac locks. Only the mouse moves, nothing responds. the iMovie software reports "Camera Disconnected." I'm using a 4 to 6 pin firewire cable.
Oddly, as soon as I power the camera down, the mac comes back to life, and all the buttons I clicked during the lock-up are performed. It's as if the mouse clicks are bufferred somewhere.
I've hooked the camera to a friends Sony VAIO WinXP using a 4pin to 4pin Firewire cable, and it worked fine. Yikes.
Is there anyway to diagnose this, short of buying a new 4 to 6pin cable and praying?
I spent 90 minutes on the phone with Apple support, but no joy. They gave up. Problem is I have exactly 4 hours experience with a mac, and have no idea what to do next.
Thanks!!!!
Mike
