Camcorders

I am a complete novice but trying to learn. I have a Mac OSX G5, 2.1 GHZ 512MB 700MHZ. I want to buy a HD Camcorder. I have read about all the problems with the AVCHD camcorders and I am quite sure I would be overwhelmed. I want to be able to get HD quality, download easily to my computer to edit and then show the film on my somewhat new HD TV.
Money is not nearly as important as ease is operation and quality of the film. Can someone help?
