Can anybody help me with this network problem?

Hi there.

I've rebuilt an old PC of mine i had the parts laying around for. it consists of:

AMD Athlon XP 2100+
Nforce 2 Mobo
GeForce3 GFX card.

Here is my problem. I'm trying to network it with my brothers PC so i got myself a 5m cable to do so. Whenever I connect the 2 PC's absouloutly nothing happens. The PC's don't even show that they're connected to each other but when I connect either of them to my iBook everything works! :o
Any ideas on why or how this is happening? I'm stumped as to what to do! :(
I want to share his broadband connection so i can play a few games online whenever i'm over his.
 
You are probably using a non-crosslinked network cable. Macs are able to deal with any kind of ethernet cable while PCs need to use crosslinked cables when they are connected directly to eachother. Also make sure you setup individual IPs to the two PCs and use the same subnet. Good luck!
 
Thanks for that. I'll have to get a new cable for them then.
I've poested this problem on a few PC oriented boards but i've not had 1 reply. I come to Macosx.com and it's sorted! :)
