Can I create a generic printer driver?

I just upgraded to OS X and my NEC SuperScript 1450N laser printer is not supported. NEC said a Japanese driver may be out sometime next year.

The printer still works with classic progs., although with some minor problems.

Is there a way I can create a driver myself, or get some sort of generic driver like back in the LaserWriter8 days. Something that will just give me basic printing options. Not looking to do watermarks or collating or such. Just want to print documents.

Can anyone help?

unless you're pretty good with assempbly language, probably not. if it were that easy we wouldn't really need a hardware forum to talk about all the crap that doesn't work in X. :rolleyes:
