Can I install OS X 10.4.4 on my old G4 Mac?

My friend just got a new G5 that came with OS X 10.4.4. Would I be able to use her software discs and install it on my old G4 dual 500/1G ram? If so, is there anything that I should know about before I try and do this. I don't want to mess up my computer, since I had a G3 imac that loaded OSX but I failed to update the firmware and now it just has a blank screen. Don't want that to happen again...

If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.
