Can I make this on my Mac?

I have seen these pictures before and they are really cool, I'm wondering if I could do this on my computer using an application or even some Photoshop Plug-In.

What exactly is this called, anyway? It's basically one picture made up of many smaller pictures.

try this Scott. there are also some classic apps that do this as well. i ran across it when we were looking for an app to make mosaic tile patterns. these kinds of apps were all i could find.

One of my sister's middle school yearbooks used this for a number of pictures, so I figured it couldn't be expensive to do. Thanks for pointing this out, Ed.

That's a great software !

My suggestion: choose a large image with a limited number of details and don't hesitate to start with many tiles (40x40 for a face). A uniform background is also better. Why not pre-process the image with Photoshop before "tiling" it ?
