Can terminal be a part of desktop?

What I mean is:

Is it possible for the terminal screen to be a part of the desktop as a permanent fixture. For instance, it would be at the bottom of my screen, say 1-3 rows worth. This way I could open and run commands without opening the terminal application and having my normal size shell window open. I don't know if I'm describing this right.

I guess my best example would be on my PC I have the address bar located with my quick launch next to the Start button. I hardly use it to open addresses but more like a quick way to store a line of text to paste other places.

But, I would like both my PC and Mac to have a command line at the bottom. That would be nice.

I would think that it what he is talking about. And, if it is, I would love this feature...out of your way, but there when you need it without any useless clicking around.

Well, you could make a tiny little window, say 60 cols x 5 rows, position it down in a corner of the screen, make the fonts all tiny, and then save it as a .term file. Then just have that file opened when you log in...

How difficult would it be to make your own? I was thinking the same thing and plan on making one - as soon as I've figured out how to do transparent windows. Also for holding files/text/folders etc and launching apple scripts.
