Actually happened after last update. Seems to burn cd correctly, then upon verifying, it states sectors unreadable. Even if i do not veryfy, still cannot see the images on the cd..unreadable or currupted. I try an older 12x burner hooked uo externally, and still same issue. Never had issues before last update. Almost want to reinstall Panther.

If you go to the apple and about this mac, then click more info, then disc burning on the top line it probably says something like DOCB I encountered an issue like this and updated the firmware to d101 I believe it was, and that fixed the issue for that computer. - this is just a guess but figured anything could help

Have you tried zapping the PRAM? Reboot the Mac and after the startup chime hold down Command-Option-P-R. Hold it down for a few chimes and then let it go. Hopefully this will reset the hardware enough to have it detect the drive properly.

You might also want to repair permissions and do a Repair Disk using the OS X install discs that shipped with that Mac. You could also boot into Single User Mode and run the "/sbin/fsck -yf" command if you don't have access to the discs. Just hold down Command-S after the Macintosh startup chime.
