Cannot change Date & Time settings

I am on Tiger 10.4.11 on Mac Book Pro Intel duo. All updates except for Parallels installed. Have run permissions repairs and preferential treatment. Tried to delete preferences for system ...

Every time I try to uncheck the box marked or open the Date and Time preferences, it freezes and have to force quit.

Help appreciated. Fay in Flagstaff

I have the same problem, also with Tiger 10.4.11 updated on MacBook Pro. Date & Time requests authentication ('Click the lock to make changes.') but freezes after I have type the password, and sometimes even before then, even if I am using an Administrator account. Other System Preferences apps work fine.

(As I was writing this, it briefly worked long enough for me to change the time zone, but it has gone back to freezing up again.)

(The suggestion on another thread to uncheck 'Set date & time automatically' will not help, since it will not let me get near that before freezing.)

Any ideas appreciated.

I have just found a somewhat useful Apple Discussion thread (here), which suggests deleting (or moving these two files:

/Users/nnnn/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
/Users/nnnn/Library/Preferences/com.apple.MenuBarClock.plist

and then rebooting. That did not work for me, but the thread also points out that Date & Time unfreezes if you wait long enough - minutes. That seems to be the answer. It's not ideal, but in this case patience is rewarded ;-).
