Hi there,

I'm trying to burn a DVD using Mac the Ripper and Toast but my formatted DVD-R only holds about 4.3GB.

Can anyone please suggest how to rectify this?

Thank you!

What version of Toast are you usng. Toast V 7.01 compresses the file to fit on a blank DVD-R. There is also DVD2OneX which offers more than Toast and does an excellent job. Unless you are using dual (double) layer blanks, you have to use a compression program to reduce the size of the VideoTS file. A good site to visit is www.ripdifferent.com where a lot of your Mac questions can be answered. Hope this helps.;)

I've also used a program made by Roxio called Popcorn to compress video. It does this by removing unnecessary subtitles and languages. As a last resort, it will also reduce to actual video resolution or audio bitrate. It's pretty flexible and has been very reliable for me.

I have seen double layer DVD±R/RW drives for as low as $80 internal and $125 for external firewire. With the proper media that would bump you up to nearly 8.5GB for your video even without resolution killing compression.
