cannot connect PC on to Mac Network

Hello All

Our workplace and network is all macintosh and we have a G5 server running OSX. We just received a PC running Windows 98 from a neighbor and I thought it would be great to have it on the network as well. I am not that knowledgeable about networking but we do have someone who works for us sparingly and he said that you just connect the cables, click on network neighborhood on the PC and select the Mac Server. Well, I have tried that and the Mac Server does not appear. All that shows up is an Icon called entire network. When I click on that, I get a message stating "Unable to browse network. The Network is not accessible." I have tried other things such as selecting the proper network adapter (at least I think I connected correctly) as well as other tips I picked up over the web, but they all seem so complicated.

I would just like a simple layman's guide to connecting if it is possible. It seems like it shouldn't be much to it.

thanks in advance. :(

Hi garcon and welcome to the forum.
You will need to tell some details about your network. Is the G5 server managing the routing and dhcp and you have few hubs/switches or do you have a router for all? It is important that you set the ip of your win98 box to automatically retrieve and use your servers or routers ip as the dhcp ip. I think in win98 you will need to reboot after changing the network settings. Also make sure your router (if used) has no MAC-filter on.. Ahhh, I realise there are so many factors that play a big role. Simply tell how your Macs are connected and what settings your server or router has. I am sure the problem can be easily solved.
