Cannot connect to internet - tried everything!

I know this sounds lame...I am actually well-versed in MACS...my friend just gave me a fairly recent POWERBOOK G4 loaded with Leopard and goodies. He cleaned it out and he assited me in changing the password, etc. I am on my old iBookG4 right now and the signal, as usual, is great and no problems. I've tried everything on the POWERBOOK G4 sitting RIGHT NEXT to my ibook...and it won't connect. I went to system preferences...it's SHOWING the wireless # that we use in my apartment, so it 'sees' it....but then it won't connect.

Help?
 
what is the error message that you get if any? and what is the output of the system.log and console.log files when you attempt to connect? (you can access the logs by running the console application located in /Applications/Utilities. also, what OS is the powerbook running?

post those here and we should be able to further help you.

Don't know if this will help but I had the same problem. I went into my wireless router (192.168.1.1) and enabled "Enable SSID Broadcast." fixed it out right.
 
wow.. you reboot alot. for starters it looks like your wireless link is being broken often. do you notice that the airport menu in the top right corner of the screen goes from black to grey every 30 minutes or so? by the looks of the ssid it looks like you have dsl and it's a wireless access point installed by the phone company. (could be totally wrong here but just a guess). do you have admin access to the wireless access point? are you able to make changes to it or is it an "apartment" one?

If your router is other than airport, type 192.168.1.1 in your browser. It will ask you to log in. Usually the login is admin the for user and 1234 for password. you can change that once you get in. Also check your router it will have this information on it.

If you have an airport, use the airport utility.

I know this sounds lame...I am actually well-versed in MACS...my friend just gave me a fairly recent POWERBOOK G4 loaded with Leopard and goodies. He cleaned it out and he assited me in changing the password, etc. I am on my old iBookG4 right now and the signal, as usual, is great and no problems. I've tried everything on the POWERBOOK G4 sitting RIGHT NEXT to my ibook...and it won't connect. I went to system preferences...it's SHOWING the wireless # that we use in my apartment, so it 'sees' it....but then it won't connect.

Did you end up figuring it out? i just got a macbook and the EXACT same thing happened with me. I contacted Apple and also Verizon and they both can't help me. it works in the apple store but not at home. I think it's leopard? let me know if u figured it out and how you did it.
