Cannot log into osx 10.3.9 server

Hello all,

We are a k-8 school and cannot log into our server. Since Monday we have been experiencing the following problems.

  1. Users cannot log in.
  2. We can only log into the server itself as root
  3. We can log into workgroup manager, yet we cannot make any changes...everything is "greyed out"
  4. We can't authenticate workgroup manager

What has happened prior to this problem...
  1. We had been experiencing password problems on the network. Users could not log in. We could not change their password in WG Manager...we had to delete and reenter the user.
  2. We recently changed our switches in the building...Though it could be related, does not explain why we can only log into the serve as root...

We are currently running permission repair from the utility disk...Seems to be repairing many issues...will save the log...

Any suggestions on where we should go from here would be appreciated...

Thank you,

Doug

Check in SERVER ADMIN the OPEN DIRECTORY settings. The problem should be in that area. Most likely the service is not (completely) running.

Good luck, Kees
