Cannot Shutdown! Argh!

Hello all:

So, after optimizing my hard drive with Norton Utilities' Speed Disk (off the Boot CD, in Classic 9.2.1), my G4 Powerbook running 10.1.4 will not shutdown. It just hangs with the blue screen and the spinning rainbow wheel of death.

I've tried the trick where you hold down Apple-S at startup and then do the fsck -y thing, and that works. It reparis the disk, and then I can shutdown ON THAT STARTUP. But then when I start my computer up AGAIN, the same thing happens when I shutdown. So then I have to do the same ol song and dance where I force a startup, Apple-S, and then fsck -y, and then shutdown.

It is a huge pain in the ass. I have to believe it's Notron; my computer was working fine up until I decided to defrag my hard drive. I found some threads that suggested that FileSaver was the culprit, but I do not know to completely remove all the necessary FS files.

Please advise so that I may return to my normal computing life!
