Canon Canoscan LiDE 60 not recognised by 10.4.9

Hi,

I've just bought a Canoscan LiDE 60 scanner.

According to Canon it works under Mac OS X, but my MacBook doesn't recognise the scanner as being present even after installing its drivers and control software.

When I try to access the scanner through the Canonscan Toolbox I get the following error message:
Cannot communicate with scanner. Cable may be disconnected or scanner may be turned off. Check status. Scanner driver will close now.

The scanner is working properly, as it doesn't have any problems with my Windows XP Boot Camp installation.

I've tried reinstalling the drivers and control software from the scanner's CD, and downloading new versions from Canon's website. And tried different USB sockets. Nothing has had any effect - OS X ignores the scanner, while Windows welcomes it.

I'm using a MacBook Pro and I'm running Mac OS 10.4.9, and it's fully updated.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

- Richard
