Can't access HD even from Norton Utils startup

Hello fellow Macs,

So I was just surfing the web and I got the little yellow dialog box saying there's a problem with my HD and to run First Aid. I figure I'll one up it and reboot from the Norton disc. When I do this, it goes through the whole startup, Norton tiled desktop and all, gets to the moment the actual desktop should pop up (the moment it mounts the HD?) then the Norton disc icon appears for a second and disappears and I am locked up. Trying to startup with the HD gives me the old flashing "?". Any ideas? I don't have any other utils. Is there some way to avoid mounting the HD at startup? It's OS 9.2 on an iMac DV G3. No problems ever before.

Thanks,
Brian

Try using the OS CD to boot up with.
Then use disk first aide from the Utilities folder.
Click on verify, then click on repair.

Then restart the machine. Then restart again using the Norton CD.

Thanks Cheryl. But I forgot to mention that the thing won't start from any CD, OS 9 install, Norton, nothing. I'm going to try to boot up again tonight, just in case, and I seriously doubt this, the HD got too hot or something. Any more help is appreciated soooo much.

Brian
