Can't add in new users any more in Workgroup Manager

Hello all,

You all might remember me from my other post about problems with the server - I gave up yesterday and reformatted the hard drive, reinstalled OSX and set everything up. All worked lovely and perfect. Put in a few users, worked fine. Could log in and access my home directories - perfectly fine. All looked rosy.

Roll on to this afternoon, I tried to add in a new user by changing to /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 in Workgroup Manager, can see the list of users, so I clicked on the padlock icon to authenticate myuself - so an username and password prompt popped up. I've got 2 admin accounts on the server - one admin and one nadmin, the former to administrate the local stuff, and nadmin for the server stuff. Put in the nadmin username and password and I got:

The login information is not valid for this server. The server failed to accept the login information you provided. Check the Name and Password and try to log in again or contact your network administrator.

Somewhat surprised as I logged in Workgroup Manager with the same username and password! I tried several different permuations of usernames:

Login window: admin
Workgroup Manager: admin
/LDAPv3/127.0.0.1: nadmin

and then, admin, nadmin, nadmin, then nadmin, nadmin, nadmin, then tried admin, admin, admin - and in every case I could get to Workgroup Manager but unable to authenticate to the /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 node using either admin or nadmin passwords. I've tried changing nadmin's password, and adding in a new admin user and nothing works. Even tried rebooting the server, no go. Everything still works perfectly fine, I can log in using my network username on a Mac and access my home directory fine - I just can't add in new users, delete them or change their information. Very frustrasting!

What am I doing wrong, and what can I do to fix this problem?

Thanks very much for your help in advance!

Cheers - Piers
