Can't connect by Ethernet or Wireless

Recently I've had several problems relating to connecting my macbook to the internet. First the basics: I have a one-year-old macbook, my internet provider is Comcast, and I've been using a cable modem to connect to the internet. The first problem was that my macbook stopped recognizing that an ethernet cable from the modem was plugged into it. I tried two different cables but neither worked. However my macbook will recognize ethernet cables in other houses, so the port itself appears to work.

I then bought a wireless router hoping to just use my mac's wireless to connect to the internet. The wireless router is made by Belkin. For the first two day's it worked fine, then this morning I woke up to it not connecting to the mac at all. The router appears fine but whenever my mac attempts to connect to it the connection times out.

It's also important to know that I also have a PC that when connected to my cable modem worked fine and also works when connected through the wireless router. I've also restarted and reset both my cable modem and wireless router multiples times. the problem appears to be in my mac yet at the same time in other places it works fine. I've also never troubleshooted a wireless network before and am unsure where to go from here.

Do you have any solutions or advice for this problem?

Do these things:
  • Power down the modem for 30 seconds. They power it back up.
  • If your router ships with a setup CD, then locate and Windows machine so that you can run the setup. You may have to reset the router to factory settings first.

As I said I've already tried those things, and I did it one more time just to see, but still no changes.
