When installing Flash 8 player, installer keeps telling me to close al browsers. All browsers are closed, and the flash intaller is the only sofware active. As far as I can tell, there is no longer any flash player installed.

What browser are you using?

Have you tried downloading the installer only? That way you can install it manually after you quit out of the browser.

Remember that to quit out of a Mac application you have to either go to File-->Quit or use the keyboard shortcut "Cmd-Q". Closing the window will not necessarily quit the application as it does in Windows. If you still see the icon on the dock and you hadn't placed the icon there, then it's running. If you did have the icon already on the Dock, check for a little black triangle underneath the icon. If it's still there, then the application is still running.

Good luck.

I have downloaded using Netscape 7.2, Explorer 5.2.2, and Safari 1.0.3. No applications are running when trying to install (this is my 4th generation mac), and I have changed network prefs to a dial up in order to assure that ethernet is not trying to contact DHCP server during install. Also did a restart before install attempt.

Thanks for the extra information. Makes it easier to tackle since you pretty much know what you're doing. :)

Have you tried downloading from this particular page?

http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/

Sometimes I go there when the one from the redirected download page doesn't want to behave properly.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
