can't install updates!

neo36

UAAAARRRR!
two days ago, my harddrive crashed, so i had to reinstall os x 10.1 on another hd. since there are quite a number of updates available, i want to install these, as i did before. but i have some problems with that:

1. when i run software update from the control panels, OS X says that there are no updates available. well, what should i say, i know there ARE updates until 10.1.5 plus several minor updates...

2. i tried to manually download them from the apple site, but everytime i run the installer app, i can't choose my harddrive as a target.

3. i know that there is an update for the installer app. i downloaded it as well, same problem, can't choose my HD as the target.

does anyone know what could be the problem?? I'd appreciate fast answers, because i really need my mac to run properly at the moment.

it installed os x 10.1, as said, and i also tried with os x server 10.1, both systems same problems.

as for my mac, some tech-specs: power mac g3 b/w 350 MhZ 640 MB RAM, im on a lan with a router managing the connection to the internet.

I installed os x before several times on this mac, never had a problem like that! i'm really going crazy about this! plz help!

it happened to me too. you have to scour the apple website and download every single update, and then via hit & miss you try each one until you find the one that works, and once that one works, you install another, then another, etc. etc.

You need:
the installer update
the security update 10-19-01
networking update
mac os x 10.1.5 combo update

(i'm not sure what the order is though)
and it SHOULD work.

that did it, thank you very much!

just for my couriosity:
is it possible, that this problem is related to the security hole, which was discovered with software update last week?
