Hola

I am having a problem with my mac mini 1.25/1 Tiger 10.4.7

Before I start please note that this mail is not about adding hotmail accounts to entourage. Please read the whole message to get an understanding of whole problem.

Now to my problem, on Friday morning I turned on my macmini as usual, I opened Entourage and found I could not receive mail into entourage from hotmail, I have 3 hotmail accounts and another non hotmail account set up in entourage. The non hotmail account works fine, none of the hotmail ones do.

These are not new accounts with a new entourage, these accounts were working on Thursday night before I went to bed and when I turned my mac on Friday mail didn't work

I have had my hotmail accounts for over 7 years and thus MSN allowed me to go off line with the accounts when they went web based . So I have used off line hotmail account with mac for over 4 years and on this macmini for over a year and the accounts have been working fine until Friday

The error codes I get are for one account "reached end of file" and for the other two "connection to the server failed or was dropped" -3253.

Now, I have checked with my ISP and there are no faults found at their end, I am not running a firewall and the first time this happened was straight after start and all mail was working fine before close down

Whilst being annoyed at this I thought well I can use web based mail, that's when things started getting fishier. I can't access www.hotmail.com through Safari, Firefox or IE5. I can log onto Messenger but not access the messages from there. So I went to look for a microsoft update and I can't get to any microsoft sites. I can't access MSN either but can access nineMSN.com.au, the local MSN network. On all browser the requests just time out

I have spent over 48 hours searching for relevant articles on the net, in forums and looking through libraries and cleaning caches, Oh and I recently loaded little snitch, after the microsoft problem arose, to check for unauthorised network traffic and I can see none.

I have cleared the cache in all programs, and reset safari completely. I have checked for errant entourage temp files and found none. I have pinged both hotmail and microsoft and I get a response. The only other site I seem to have issue with is www.iht.com, (again ping successful) some others are tempremental. (www.smh.com.au) Most sites load properly and are functioning as normal. I have also cleared the PRAM

I have been able to access my hotmail from other sources

So basically, I am flummoxed, for some reason my mac mini is stopped getting to microsoft sites.

Anyone got any ideas, as my next step it to take the mac mini else wheres and check on some elses internet connection

fingers crossed you folks will help

Jonathan

Hey Jonathan,
I am having the same prob. I'm using 10.3.9 powerbook, iburst/chilli in Sydney.
Since Friday 8th, no MSN , Hotmail, SBS, smh??? This has truly been baffling as I get other sites and Iburst say they are fine on their end.
If I find anything, shall let you know

Hiya Smashie

I have put queries on the Microsoft Entourage forum and the Apple tiger forum too. The Sydney Morning Herald loads sometimes and not others almost as if it waits for the right traffic.

Considering you and I have different versions of OSX leads me to think this is a Chilli problem. Are you able to get radio over the internet. I use a BBC radio widget and that has stopped working too.

Tonight I will try chilli again, this is too spooky

Good luck in your search

This is just a suggestion....I know this is frustrating the heck out of you but I am only able to think of one thing...power cycling your router (I'm presuming that you are using one). I will continue to search for any info on your very wierd issue.....

To power cycle your router properly, simply unplug the power for at least one minute. Leaving it unplugged for this amount of time allows for routers and other DSL equipment to see that your line has dropped, and to reset themselves so they'll be ready to re-make the connection when you turn the router back on.

You may wish to take this time to reboot your computer as well, just in case the computer is causing the connection problem.

Plug the power back in, wait for 30 to 60 seconds as the router boots up, then attempt to access the Internet as you would normally. If everything works correctly, then you're ready to go.

Hola

Thanks, I had tried a ten second switch off with no effect and I have just tried the cup of tea switch off, a few mins, still nothing.

After hearing someelse has the same issue, in the same area, with the same provider, however with different local operating systems, thus lowering the chance of a shared system error, it must be something to do with the provider.

Thanks for you help though, most appreciated and I can say at least one good thing at least no one from the entourage team had seen the error codes before !!! A Mac first !!

Once I get a response from Chilli I will let you know what they say

Byzie bye

On my first 6 months, chilli have never been helpful when it has come to Mac OS X.
Their initial cd only had exe files
My 10.3.9 was "non-compatible" with iburst modem as according to Rep.

must admit I am looking for a new provider too, too slow for me and this should have been picked up by them too. Oh well I have sent them a copy

So fingers crossed they will now something next time

thanks for the heads up on the cure, now I am off to post this url on all the forums I joined!!

As I said on the 'other' forum....Westnet.com.au are a really customer focused ISP. Don't forget to add the .au or else you are directed to an American ISP: westnet.com. Totally different.

I can stop looking now...I was almost close when I mentioned your router....almost.....
