can't put attachments on Mail with NTL ISP

I've just successfully connected my eMac running 10.2.8 connected via Airport to a router using NTLworld as the ISP, and now I can't seem to add attachments when I'm sending emails... added to this the uploading is very slow (though download speed is fine)...

uploading and attachment used to be fine with my old ISP (Pipex), and I'm wondering if there's some setting I have to change because I'm connecting wirelessly, or because I'm now using NTL... also the main computer that is connected to the router is a PC, I don't know if this makes any difference

I've tried asking NTL but they don't seem very clued up on Macs... anyone any ideas?

thanks in advance

Is it giving you an error message when you try to send an attachment? From the sound of it, you just have a very slow upspeed. Here's something to check. Try sending a message with an attachment, and open the Activity Viewer from the Window menu (or command+zero on the keyboard).

If it's trying to send, it'll display a progress bar. If it doesn't, then you won't see anything, or an error will pop up.

the Acivity bar is progressing, and it goes up to 100% (albeit very slowly) before finally stopping and asking if I want to try a different SMTP server...

if I try and send a message without an attachment it's still very slow but does actually send – so that's why I was guessing there might be some incorrect setting somewhere

thanks for the help
