Can't watch a hardware review for an Apple PowerBook on a Mac!???!!! ARGH!!!

Sogni

*gone*
Now this takes the cake!
I was attracted to this page on Cnet:
http://www.cnet.com/broadband/0-7057175.html#

Where it lists a Video Spotlight on "A look inside Apple's new PowerBook" SWEET! I go and click on it just to be greeted by "This content is only available to RealOne GoldPass members." HUH??? WTF!!!???

Ok first of all - there is no RealOne for Mac! 2nd of all - why in the hell would Mac users sign up for RealOne GoldPass if they can't get RealOne???!!!???!!!

Who's going to watch this video? PC People? I think not (well, there might be a would be convert who is eyeing the Powerbook - but what are the chances of that?)

ARGH!!!! What dolts!

There is a RealPlayer version available for UNIX. Would this run under the XDarwin System?

Either way - with a UNIX version - it seems like Real would have two easy pathways to get an OS X native version of RealPlayer (either use the UNIX version or the OS 9 version as the basis).

Bottom line - Real doesn't give a rat's ass about Mac users.

As I've already said - screw 'em. I'll use WMP before I use Real.

I've been wondering this myself along with the question of a better .avi player. My friends use mplayer on linux so it seems like this could be ported.

 but then there are so many things that could or should be ported, I suppose it's a matter of time and resources.

I've noticed that all C|Net content is either WMV7 or RealVideo format. Of course all their links to download the Mac client are for MacOS 9... even on an video referring to the funeral for OS 9 Jobs had at WWDC. PATHETIC.

That's the problem with PC users, they tried OS 9 3 years ago and still think that's what we use...
