I'm currently developing a custom inventory, sales, and customer tracking, appointments, etc system with a database.

I was able to find a USB bar code scanner for the Mac. What I'm looking for is a register with USB connection that will allow me to open the register. (This can be w/ a unix system command, i.e lpr)

If anyone has knowledge about these things or suggestions, please share.

Don't know if this helps, the site's in swedish, but this guy sells software and hardware for cash registers. Perhaps you can mail him, Hans Thörnquist is a nice guy.

I know of a few companies here in Australia who provide Mac-based POS (Point Of Sale) systems. I think the component you're actually looking for, though, is called a "Cash Drawer", most of which have either a serial, RS232, or USB connection.
