I have a serious problem here.

I downloaded this region reset for my Hitachi drive. I was trying to get a dvd to play (the Matrix). After doing this my drive is no longer doing anything. Neddless to say i'm fairly vexed, but i'm need of a solution fast.

Does anyone know what i can do to get my drive back. Please tell me that this is not gone for good, i cannot afford this right now.

Thanks in advance.

Am I correct in my reading.... the DVD drive is your Hitachi drive? Was this(regional reset) from Apple or Hitachi? Do you know if this was firmware or just software? Did the installer give you a log of where the files were placed?

If this reset was from Hitachi or Apple - you should contact them and let them know.

it was a file called Hitachi GD-7x00 Reset. it didn't do much, i manged to get the drive to read cd's now, but still no dvds. i was told i could get this program called Region X for OS X, but i can't find it anywhere. And so i am stuck.

It could be that the Apple DVD drivers were disabled. Run the Apple System Profiler. See if it shows your DVD drivers and if they are active.

Did you try starting iMovie, then point it to the DVD? Does the DVD icon even show up on your desktop?

Can CD's run on the drive?

Have you run Dick Utilitity? The last resort would be to re-install OS 10.2. Do not select initialize. Just the install. It will re-install the system and not touch your applications or files.

it doesn't show the icon on the desktop, iMovie hasn't helped, and neither has disk utility. It just spits out the disk. I don't want to go through another try at loading jaguar, i've had serious issues when i installed. I posted both here and at apple about my Jaguar install problem and no one seems to know anything about it at all. So for now, i have find an alternative.
