CD/DVD ROMs missing

I have the default CD/DVD rom of a mirrored door G4, and a sony 52x burner, gone missing on me. They show up in profile, but im not able to eject the discs inside, nor access them. When i go to burner in profile, it says I dont have any connected.

Do you have any idea about how to get them back. Is this a software issue?

After alot of fidgeting, reading verbose startup logs about unable to load superdrive kexts and such, I bit the sour apple and reinstalled Tiger, and that solved the problem.
