On my quicksilver 733 G4, any time I now try to insert an audio CD, the CD-R drive closes, waits about 5 seconds, then opens back up. It seems that it only started doing this since I burned a data CD last week, but thats not definite.

Is anyone else having this problem?? What's the solution?

Did you check if the eject button on your keyboard is stuck or dirty? That happens to me all the time.

Nope. It fine. Computer is only 3 weeks old. This has me questioning why I bucked trend and bought a Mac!

Mine was the drive itself. Here is what I did:

Opened up the case and unplugged the IDE cable from the drive, leaving only the power cable (thereby disabling any communications between computer and drive). Reboot. Drive still wouldnt stay closed, which proved it was the drive (at least to the satisfaction of the support people). They wanted me to drive 100 miles to take the computer in to the nearest Apple store, which I politely declined and insisted that they send me a new drive since it is an FRU (field replaceable unit). It took all of about 15 minutes to swap the drive out.

You should have gotten the Hardware Test CD. Run that and see what it says.

Does it do the same problem with a data CD?

One more thing, If the computer is only three weeks old, call the Apple 800 number. You should request that they send you the replacement. that should bypass the goofballs. :p
