CD ROm Issues

I just got a new cd rom for my imac g3 and it wont read any cds when i put them in. Its a tray loader.Is there anything extra im supposed to do when putting a new cd rom into my computer so it will read the cds?? Thanks

Specific iMac model (there are approximately 15 versions).
System / MacOS X version installed.
Manufacturer (and web site URL), model number, and name (if applicable) of CD ROM drive.
Specific titles of CD's inserted into CD ROM drive.
